PERL Programmer

Serco Inc. is seeking to hire a Software Engineer III to support the TSP system. The work location is in Metairie, LA.

The candidate must be a self-starter with strong self-management skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities while working independently as well as being a team member. Excellent customer focus and communication skills are a must.

The candidate must be strong PERL programmer. The candidate will be capable of web development on the Linux Operating System using a combination of HTML/CSS, Javascript, Apache, PERL, MySQL and other tools to make business applications accessible. The ideal candidate will be able to immediately participate in development efforts by developing PERL programs with little or no technical guidance.

Secondarily, the candidate will be capable of performing the routine operation of server software including software installation, maintaining system security, monitoring usage statistics and logs, modifying configuration settings and backing up the systems. Candidate will be able to troubleshoot system related problems and will be knowledgeable in networking/internet protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, SSH, SCP, etc...

* Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Information Technology, or equivalent experience

* 2 years minimum Web programming experience using Perl/PHP

* 3 years minimum experience with HTML/Javascript/CSS

* 2 years minimum experience working with relational database systems such as MySQL

* Experience using mod_perl is a plus

* Advanced Linux & Apache adminstration/configuration is a plus

* Experience with Python programming language is a plus

* Visual creativity (graphics, layout, design) is a plus

* Experience with web site search applications is a plus
