Description

This Fibers Development Engineer will be a member of the Fibers Process Development team within Fibers Technology. The engineer will be responsible for executing a variety of projects to improve the manufacturing of fiber-based products. Projects will vary in scope from upgrades, trouble shooting, and identification of process improvements to support manufacturing while expanding capabilities domestically and internationally. The position also offers opportunities for innovative development in automation, circularity, and improved methods of mechanical processing. This individual will be expected to build a strong cross-functional network, collaborating with other Technology, Manufacturing, and Business personnel.

Responsibilities


* Consult with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
* Research, design, evaluate, install, and maintain production equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles
* Develop viable alternatives for executing improvement opportunities then determine the cost and potential value of each. Prepare tools for and facilitate decision makers in selecting the best alternatives. Finally, hold the project accountable to the cost/benefit commitments.
* Investigate equipment failures and operational difficulties to diagnose source, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew
* Provide feedback to engineers and management across operating divisions on problems and needs as they arise
* Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
* Establish and coordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule, and supply of materials required to maintain machines and equipment in the prescribed condition
* Interface and consult with production, technical, business and marketing personnel to recommend corrective action and to evaluate processes for effectiveness and improvement
* Effectively communicate ideas and data with other Eastman groups
* Serve as subject matter expert and technical resource for our internal clients: business, marketing, and technical service
* Coordinate production of approved customer samples and prototype yarns.
* Develop new yarns to meet customer and market demands. Work with customers including weavers, knitters and dye houses to trial and qualify new products.
* Involvement in the design, economic evaluation, and scale-up of processes
* Lead or contribute to cross-functional teams involving personnel from quality, safety, environmental, technical service, customer interface, maintenance, and multiple manufacturing divisions.
* Establish strong trusted business relationships with operations personnel
* Initiative to learn and apply technical fundamentals in new areas of interest
* Identify and implement improvements to support business objectives and cost cutting initiatives including debottlenecking, asset flexibility, process improvements and reliability improvements.
* Travel less than 15%

Qualifications

* Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university, required
* Minimum 5 years of industrial experience, preferred.
* Ability to work independently
* Ability to interact positively with group members, project teams, Technicians, Technologists, Operators, skilled trades, and other organizations
* Initiative in looking for new process technology and /or new product applications opportunities
* Motivated by the opportunity to collaborate and to innovate
