The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.
How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?Air Liquide's Biogas Solutions Americas operates a fleet of waste-to-energy production facilities across the USA, transforming waste from landfills and agricultural sources to renewable natural gas (RNG). The Operations Intern will actively lead the development and implementation of a strategy and system for identifying and monitoring critical spares required at these facilities. Of interest are 2 within 50 mi of Milwaukee, and 1 (Air Liquide's largest, globally) in Rockford,IL, where the intern may require ~2 weeks onsite at each facility, with work-from-home time possible in the interim periods. If time permits, other sites (PA, GA, LA, MS) may be relevant as well. The maintenance strategy is critical to maximizing uptime at all the facilities during operation. This will prove to be a fruitful learning opportunity for the intern, thanks to regular exposure to day-to-day industrial plant operations and how waste is transformed into renewable energy in the USA.Duties and Responsibilities
Support plant construction and commissioning, responsible for representing the Operations Team on matters of safety, reliability, and operability
Verify P&ID illustrations and redline for As-Built documentation
Perform quality control checks for supplies, equipment, instrumentation, and incoming shipments for new and existing facilities
Validate systems installation in accordance with approved drawings, technical documentation, and best practices
Assist plant commissioning team with plant start-up, operation of the plant equipment, and systems
Create preventative maintenance tasks as recommended by manufacturer, including equipment calibrations and control system loop checks
Maintain facility materials and spare-parts inventory
Compare equipment across sites and utilize common spares
Fulfilling tasks assigned by a supervisor
Performing clerical duties
Event handling or planning
Job-shadowing
Learning technical skills related to the industry
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop an inventory of critical spare-parts stored at the respective facility: (i) noting vendor/model/quantity; (ii) photos of tags, labels of items; (iii) identify parent item/assembly/skid that each spare/item belongs to; (iv) transcribe information to Google Sheet that can be accessed by approved users.
Identify expired items (by date) or damaged items, and flag for action
Identify duplicates found in other locations, and consolidate
Develop a system to monitor storage location (e.g., a shelf/bin identifier)
Make a proposal for any infrastructure needed (bins, shelving, labeling system), get buy-in from management and plant staff, and execute ordering and implementation
Required Qualifications
Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in engineering or a hard science
Process and operational safety conscience, with constant attention to detail
Ready to work in an operating plant, including in an onsite office
Self-starter, with ability to work independently and in small-teams, working efficiently to collect any required information from plant staff
Strong time-management skills
Strong organizational skills
Clear and concise verbal/written communication skills, including reports, brief updates and presentations
Preferred Qualifications
Mechanical or Chemical Engineering background
Prior experience working in an industrial environment, around an operational process
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to review process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
Working Conditions
Inside operating plant, near loud machinery
In potentially hazardous locations (C1D2)
PPE Required: Safety hat, Safety toed shoes, Safety glasses, FR clothing, or covering
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Ability to walk and stand, climb ladders
Relevant facilities are located within 50 mi of Milwaukee, and 1 is in Rockford, IL, and it is anticipated the intern will require ~2 weeks onsite at each facility, with work-from-home time possible in the interims
